12.18.15 3D Drawing, Printing & Scanning

We’ll take 3D printing to a new level by bringing 3 dimensions to your 2 dimensional drawings, and learn how 3D scanning technology works with the MakerBot Digitizer.

What great creations came from this program! I was impressed with the amount of originality and hard work everyone put into their designs, it really shows in the final products.

Our process started with an original sketch (above left). Once the sketch was finalized sharpie markers defined the design, transforming it to one of high-contrast (above right).

11.20.15 LED Paper Circuits

Get your holiday cards ready to light up again this year with LED paper circuits! Create your own from scratch or find inspiration from seasonal cards, ready to be modified.

We had lots of fun this year! Not only did we create our own circuits, we also explored lighting up origami and paper cuttings from the Cricut machine!

Lots of planning went into the designs, like the sprinkle for a cupcake (above), Christmas tree decorations (below), and a light-up 3D snowman in the making created on the Cricut (below).

8.21.15 3Doodler

This program has passed.

The long awaited 3Doodler pens are here! Create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece as your doodle comes to life with a 3D printing pen. Bring yourself and your great ideas.

Just hours before our program the 3Dooders arrived on our doorstep! Unfortunately this was not quite enough time to get things up and running, for the pens are not an out-of-the-box ready-to-use experience. Keep on the lookout for another special 3Doodler program, and in the mean time check out creations from teens using a combination of TinkCAD, Thingiverse and the PrintShop app:

Created with the PrintShop MakerBot app. Top image is the original drawing, which was then captured and transformed into a three-dimensional object, and finally printed. Any Maleficent fans out there?!

Join us to learn basic concepts and terminology, build, and program LEGO robots with LEGO Mindstorms. Work together to build a bot in January and program it in February. Attendance is mandatory for both sessions.

Our first LEGO Mindstorms meeting was great! We formed our teams, decided which creatures would come to life and started building. Everyone was hard at work:

And here are the works in progress:

Check back next month to see the final creations in action!
